The headline numbers: GLM 5.3 scores around 68% on HumanEval and mid-50s on the harder LiveCodeBench. That puts it in the same zip code as Claude Sonnet and GPT-4o on pure coding tasks, which is absurd for something you can run locally.

But the real story is tool use. The new version has a proper function-calling pipeline that doesn’t fall apart after three sequential calls. That was the fatal flaw in 4.6 — it would nail the first API call, then forget what it was doing and start hallucinating parameters. The thread has a guy showing a 12-step agentic workflow running without a single malformed JSON response. That’s genuinely new.

The context window is 200K, same as before. The 32B model needs about 24GB of VRAM at Q4 quantization. I’ve seen people squeeze it onto a 3090 with heavy offloading, but that’s a miserable experience. Get a used 4090 or rent a runpod for $0.79/hour and stop torturing yourself.
