Where Things Got Interesting #

The purchase that made the top of my list was Raspberry Pi 4 Model B (4GB). I have experience with hosting static webpages, but never with running and maintaining a side hustle. In my opinion, buying this board has been the best decision ever. I’m finally making progress on my project! My goal is to run a static website without paying third-party hosting services. I considered the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B because I’ve heard that Raspbian OS supports hosting a web server without paying for the hardware. This is exactly what I need! NOTE: 😅 I know this might sound overkill. For most people, hosting their work on a Raspberry Pi might be unnecessary, except for highly specialized projects. Always weigh the pros and cons before choosing hosting solutions, especially when relying solely on them for mission-critical projects. However, I’m preserving this article in the event it turns out to be well-written someday. I do expect some compromises with this kind of setup, such as slower load times or intermittent connectivity due to power supply. But, I find it important to test the waters before committing to any tools and systems. I would advise anyone having the same aspirations to test this approach as well. Slimy Hint: If you’re interested in alternatives to hosting static websites, there are a few other options you might want to consider!

Why I Won’t Need More than Two of Them #

I appreciated this response because it reminded me not to overpromise, overspend or over-extend myself. I’ll admit I over-invested in Raspberry Pi for hosting, but I’m learning my lesson. Two Pi’s — Winter Pi — already got me to know enough 40 GB HD space to store 100,000 medium-sized files. (So far, my website needs around 15GB for 10,000+ medium-sized files.) No Pi: 0 MB 2 WinterPis: 40 GB I figured I’d need 8GB of RAM, but I’m feeling pretty okay with 4GB. If my website ends up needing more than that (which it probably will), I can always add more memory cards for an extra 1GB here or there if needed. (I really hope so; being cheap is scary; life might get drastically different at some point.) Current Usage: 2GB RAM and MySQL for most of the other processes; might need more. Currently, the Pi takes about 15% of full CPU usage. And note: The process after that takes 15% and alternates with other processes. I hope I don’t regret the philosophy after it’s rendered. But then, the big upgrade project, which will deprive me of a good chance, is always great, and I think I just love it! NB: Not an expert — if you’re interested in low-speed projects and you think this might be what you need for your project as well, my rave review might be just the thing for you to help you decide!
